The Christian race is never an easy one. It is not easy in the sense that, we hardly can live a perfect Life. We fall but rise immediately even as we strive to perfection. But in a situation whereby we rise up after a long time of remaining on the ground, how are we going to maintain the race, moving on steadily?
When you backslide, there must be at least one particular act of sin which interest you or you derive pleasure in. Try to desist from it. Feel your thoughts and heart with the word of God. In as much as you are encouraged to study the word, do not make it mandatory, try to study to enjoy it, but also meditate on it thoroughly. Even if it does not interest you at first, you can choose interesting Biblical passages or stories to start with, then gradually move on to read context applicable to your Life and activities of your contemporary world.
Inculcate into your activities, God's presence, how? If for instance, you love Music, you can play gospel music frequently. It doesn't mean, you should stop the secular music totally. Of course, secular music with evil meaning or canal lyrics should not be listened to, because it will pollute your mind. But you can start with putting 30 gospel songs for every 100 songs you listen to. Then gradually increase the number. Ensure that you do not just listen to the melody but as well get the messages in each song. You may be the out-door type, then do well to attend Christian gatherings, meetings and join groups which will benefit you. Do you love movies? There are lots of Christian movies you could watch and so on it goes.
Show it to the world that you are enjoying the presence and grace of God as a Christian. You may be known for some negative character before; this makes the whole situation a very good opportunity to draw others to you. If you are not ashamed of your spiritual status, it will enable you to preach to others anytime you have the chance to. And as well activate your consciousness and spirit that indeed you are a Christian. Anytime you face temptation, you'll always have a very great chance to resist without much self conflict.
Associate with the Christian brethren (sincere ones, not just the ones who call themselves Christians). By so doing, you are sure to have trust worthy brothers or sister around to help you whenever you want to backslide. They can also assist in uplifting you to attain higher levels of spirituality.
Above all, try to read some Christian literature or watch some videos of renowned preachers. Pray to God to touch your heart before reading or watching them. It will surprise you how the spirit can immediately work in your Life through this.
We are humans, therefore, do not bite yourself anytime you fall or have backslidden. These basic principles are also very much applicable to newly born again Christians. It is good you have found your way back, maintain the track and sanctify yourself to be worthy of His (Jesus Christ) coming or calling (death).
