Sex is a gift from God, and should be recognized with repentance and faith. "Whatsoever is not of faith is sin". (Romans 14:23). This is why all sexual intercourse outside of marriage is sin. It is taking something that God has withheld for our own good-something that God has not given us. The Lord God.....made.....a woman, and bought her unto the man" (Genesis 2:22). This is the origin of marriage. Marriage is the acceptance of your husband or your wife as a gift from God. asking His blessing on your union, confessing your need of His grace and before Him taking vows of fidelity. It is your choice to be true to each other as long as you both shall live.
John the Baptist was wise when he said, "A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven" (John 3:27). If men and women not married to each other have faith, they will not engage in sexual intercourse. That would be trying to "receive" something not "given..... from heaven." It is trying to steal from God's hand.
Some say, "many steal from God's hand and get away with it." Do they? John the Baptist said they "receive nothing" and that is exactly right. All they "receive" is the knowledge of good and evil, and guilt to go along with it. In most cases they deprive themselves later in life of the very thing they want-sex: if they had waited in faith until God gave them each other in marriage with His blessing, they would ever after enjoy to the fullest extent the thing they wanted- and with peace and joy. What are some of the fruits of trying to steal what has not been "given..... from heaven"? not only guilt and shame-and these are bad enough; but also venereal disease; unwanted parenthood (the newspapers tell many stories of babies thrown in latrines in African, some Caribbean and even Asian societies); psychological disasters such as impotence in the male and frigidity in the female (these can often be traced to disastrous pre-marital sex); and a deep-rooted unfaithfulness on the part of one or both partners.
Stealing sex not "given.... from heaven" tends to destroy the capacity for fidelity in love. The very act itself is loveless because there can be no true love without faith and fidelity. If the two partners later marry each other, there is sometimes the nagging doubt, "can I really trust him/her? He/she was unfaithful to God in premarital sex-will he/she be unfaithful also in extramarital sex if temptation arises? Don't fool yourself: temptation will always manage to come somehow! Of course, repentance is possible and so long as you do not repent, these problems will linger one way or the other.
